Asthma

Reversible airway narrowing — modern control is the goal, not just relief.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that causes episodic wheeze, cough and breathlessness. With the right diagnosis and a properly chosen inhaler, the vast majority of patients can live entirely symptom-free.

At Lung Care we focus on confirming the diagnosis objectively, picking the smallest effective inhaler regimen and reviewing technique at every visit.

Symptoms we look out for

  • Wheezing — especially at night or early morning
  • Cough that worsens with exercise, cold air, dust or pollen
  • Chest tightness or a feeling of not getting a full breath
  • Frequent overnight or pre-dawn awakenings

Our treatment approach

  • An inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) or ICS-LABA inhaler chosen for your phenotype
  • Inhaler technique check — most 'failures' are technique problems, not drug failures
  • A written, personalised Asthma Action Plan you can follow at home
  • Trigger and allergen counselling, including air-quality and pet exposures
  • Biologic therapy options for severe eosinophilic or allergic asthma

Common questions

Is asthma curable?

Asthma is not curable, but it is highly controllable. With the right inhaler and technique, the goal is zero symptoms, zero attacks and zero limitation of activity.

Will I be on inhalers forever?

Not necessarily. Many adults can step down to lower doses or seasonal-only inhalers once control is established for 6–12 months. We review at every visit.
